Legislative Update: March 8, 2016 Four bills have already advanced through the House and Senate over the last week. HB2427 (Kern) – A clean-up bill dealing with the definitions of pistols and handguns. Passed the House Floor 87 to 4 on 3/8. Those voting against the measure: Representatives Goodwin, Shelton, Williams, and Young. HB2834 (Echols) – Decriminalizes pointing a firearm in a self-defense situation. New 2A Bills Take Effect Nov 1 Six new pro-gun laws passed during the 2015 legislative session have taken effect. SB56 - Applicants will no longer be required to list their Social Security Number on their handgun license application. SB164 - The mandatory preclusion for misdemeanor drug offenses is no limited to 10 years. If someone has a misdemeanor drug conviction, they will be eligible for a handgun license 10 years following the completion of their sentence.
